Nothing adds warmth and drama as well as elegance to your home as red. Yet, most people hesitate to use red in their decor, which is rather surprising. They would rather opt for neutral colors rather than "take a chance" with red.

Red is an anomaly when it comes to decorative colors.  Most colors are either "warm" or "cool."  Red is both.  It can make any room seem warm and inviting, yet certain shades are calming. Red works the same way in apparel as well.  It is neither a warm nor cool color and can accommodate any skin tone, including redheads. 

Nothing says "look at me" like red.  It is definitely the "it" color.  Most people want to incorporate red into their home decor, as most designers advise, but are afraid of making too much of a statement.  One way to get a little red in your life, so to speak is to decorate with red rugs.

Red rugs do not have to be solid red rugs.  They can be rugs with an intricate design, such as Oriental style rugs that are mostly red.  These can give your rooms a touch of red class without it seeming overpowering.  Red runners have long been popular on staircases and have been used for nearly a century.  They are still sold today in home improvement stores – it is in fact one trend that has withstood the test of time.

If you have a neutral toned room and you want to spice things up, consider decorating with red rugs.   There is a wide assortment of patterns with red rugs that are available in the stores today for myriad different prices.  You can get a red rug that has an Oriental motif or one that is totally modern.  The choice is yours.  However, once you put the red rug down into your room, you will notice the effect right away.  Not only will it give the room drama and color, but it will also make the room feel more alive.

Red area rugs can be used in any room in the house, but work better when they are used in rooms where you entertain or want to add some drama.  Red is a power color and tends to make any room a bit livelier when it is used in décor.  Using red rugs in the decor of your living areas is a great idea as it will make these rooms feel as though they have a life of their own. 

Decorators are not the only ones who understand the power of using red in home décor.  Psychologists also practice color theory.  Red is a dominant color and using red rugs to decorate any room is a symbol of boldness as well as power. 

If you really want to make a statement of style in any room of your house, use red rugs to decorate.  No matter what the type of rug or the style, red sends out a certain message to everyone; it says "I’m a confident and self assured individual."
